Superintendent Search: Important week ahead

As I’ve written in previous posts updating my readers of the superintendent search here in the Grosse Pointe Public School System, things are starting to move faster and, particularly this week with graduations and promotion ceremonies across the district, some of this activity could get lost in the shuffle.

On Wednesday this week, June 15th, the superintendent search firm will present to the Board of Education (in open session that anyone may attend) a list of candidates that they feel are worthy of an interview for the position.  This list may be anywhere from six to eight candidates from a much larger pool of applicants.  Important to note, the search firm does not present all applicants to the Board.  Part of their value add is screening out those who are not qualified or even those after which they had a separate conversation with the search form, along the lines of an interview, found this not to be the right fit for them.

So this slate of six to eight will be reviewed by the Board this Wednesday.  The search firm will undoubtedly share their thoughts on why these candidates merit our consideration.  Barring the unforeseen circumstance that the Board would disagree with any of the suggested candidates, interviews will be scheduled for next week on three consecutive nights, June 20th-22nd.  Again, these interviews will be public and televised sessions.  From there, two or three finalists will be chosen for another interview and further vetting.  A decision on the finalist is likely to happen on July 11th or 12th.

As far as this Wednesday’s session, it will precede South’s graduation (as obviously the Board will be attending that) and will start at 4pm in room 198 at Grosse Pointe South High School.
