Candidate Debate: Closing Statement

We were given two minutes to deliver a Closing Statement.  I obviously had prepared these remarks before the debate, but those who watch it will agree how apropos these comments were after listening to an hour and a half of the negativity and pessismism of my opponent.

Thanks again to the League for organizing this event tonight.

For my five years I have made one tough decision after another.  I have embraced the difficulty of this endeavor.  I wear the criticism I have received as a result like a badge of honor because it means I’ve been honest with the community and have owned up to my responsibilities as your elected representative.

My supporters share my frustration with those who second guess or oppose every difficult option, yet offer no alternative solution in return.  This is disingenuous at best and dishonest at worst.

Political self-preservation is not my motivation – and it never will be.  My motivation is the well-being of all of our students.   I want the best for a district which invested in me and into which I am so invested.

We stand well poised now on the other side of the mountain we have scaled these last five years, equipped for progress, loaded with strength.

I look with unbridled optimism toward our future, bound only by our creativity, fueled by the spark of hope within each and every one of our students, and focused by the harsh experience of our recent past.

Pride, pragmatism, knowledge, resolve, dedication, and trust have been my toolkit.  Progress has been my product.

Pride and progress in and for our district should be our guiding principles.  Pride and progress will continue to be my motivation should I gain your support on November 2nd.

Thank you.
