State legislature approves School Aid Bill

We got some good news again today as the House and Senate approved a very bipartisan flavored School Aid Bill.  Not only does it NOT make the additional $268 per pupil cut some had suggested might happen, but it increases state aid by $11 per pupil and could potentially restore 50% of the previously eliminated 20J funds.  That would mean another $100 per pupil for GPPSS.

This means we budgeted properly for the 2010-11 school year and provides another reminder of why our new contract model makes sense.  Who knows if these number will stick?  They could get worse or they could get better.  The contract provides for both scenarios in a shared risk/shared reward model.  That’s fair.  That’s how it should be.

Governor Granholm is to sign the bill into law tomorrow.
